Born in Ripley, Tennessee, Rev. David Seward
moved to
Rockford, IL in 1958. Rev Seward was called to the ministry and ordained
in 1986. After attending Northern Baptist Theological Seminary, his whole
concept was redirected to focus on a
"hands on" urban ministry. He founded
the Rockford Holistic
Family Center in the latter part of the eighties to
later serve
as pastor of the True Vine Baptist Church for a short time.
Afterwards,
he served as the interim pastor of Pilgrim
Baptist Church. Rev Seward is
currently serving as an
associate minister oat the St. Luke Baptist Church
where
the Rev. Louis Malone is pastor.
Rev. Seward is the father of three, grandfather of eight,
and
the great-grandfather of one. He has worked
for Diamler Chrysler Corp. for
41 years.
In 1993, after serving as co-chair of the Crime Prevention
committee of Rockford, he founded the Brotherhood
Mentoring Program. It has
become his life's mission to
establish a "fix" to the current problem of
the African-American
male youth. He realized that if we allow this current
trend
of us losing our boys to become victims of this presnt-day environment,
society as a whole would suffer. One of the
most precious resources of the
black community is
dropping out of school and being locked up at an alarming
rate, causing our society to suffer greatly. |
